One of the modern killer is the two negative emotions namely âFearâ & âAnxieryâ which is an unconscious response of our brain. A common human being is ignorant of this controllable killer.
The symptoms like stomach ulcer, heart ailments, High BP, skin allergy and myriad diseases are the result of Fear & anxiety. For managing anything in life we need to understand the mechanism of our emotions. Here we go:
Letâs get a âBig Pictureâ of this response from our brain. We evolved from animals who are provided with a âLimbic brainâ whose function is âflight or fightâ response when they encounter danger. The creator designed them for âself-preservationâ purposes.
When humans evolved, the limbic brain continued at the bottom of our brain where the spinal chord ends. But we have been provided with more complex brain functions like rationale thinking to make choices.
Letâs get some more deeper understanding of our emotions. There is a subtle difference between fear & anxiety; they are not one and the same. âFearâ is the present moment recognition of a danger and anxiety is the imagination of future troubles. Let us take an example:
When we see a snake our limbic brain triggers a âfearâ of being bitten. The âanxietyâ follows by imagining we are bitten, no hospital near by, no antivinom available and so on. In fact this is the result of our âimaginationâ faculty.
The animals will have limbic response of fear only and no anxiety as they have no faculty of imagination. Please remember that anxiety does maximum damage than fear.
In order to empower ourselves, we need to be aware of the moment fear triggers and control it with our conscious choice through our rationale.
