My Thoughts on Leadership

I believe Life is a great benediction and it pays as much as you invest. Some of us have always been optimistic and some choose to be pessimistic. Few of us always think of abundance and few of us have scarcity mentality. As the old saying goes, "You cannot become rich by saving money; but can, by earning more".
Many of us live life without exploring our own hidden potentials and where is the question of tapping others. Unfortunately, all of us are not lucky to have a mentor to provide insights to find ourselves or we derive inspirations by reading or listening to Gurus. Among the whole ignorant lot, the Leader emerges as a north star, may be as a prophets like Jesus or path finders like Mahatma Gandhi.
I was always curious to know what quality of human being makes them as a Leader. I am sure it is not the IQ or domain expertise as many CEO are not the gold medalist from premium universities. Marshall Goldsmith says in his book What got you here wont get you there, "The only thing a Leader can improve is his/her behavior". This statement makes me to think that we differentiate ourselves from others by what way we think and relate with the rest of the human beings.
Many of us adopt a strange style of Leadership and become very successful up to a position and start believing that the same formula will work for the ways up in the corporate ladder. We are ignorant of the people perception that we are seen as a hard nosed and cold hearted boss. We disconnect signals from sub-ordinates sometimes saying that "we can chill a six can beer near my bosses heart". While this is the opinion of the people, we still believe that we are warm & people oriented person.
I believe that Life is an ever ending mystery and it demands a continuous exploration of oneself and refining our relationship styles, be it at home or in our career. I remember Mr. KK.Nohria, CMD of Crompton Greaves saying that the leadership boils down to "Expectation management & Finance management". My Ethos is "principle centered leadership" by which we create prosperity for every one around us keeping the time tested principles at the core of our being.
